Preparing for
The Lord’s Day
11/12/08
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Scripture study: This week we will be studying Deuteronomy chapter 2 where we see God's faithfulness to His people in their wanderings. It shows what He has given and with held, and what challenges he has commanded them to. Here is the basic outline that helps us see the various categories. It shows the principle John Calvin communicated, "The principle purpose of Biblical history is to teach that the Lord watches over the ways of the saints with such great diligence that they do not even stumble over a stone" (Ps. 91:12). From John Calvin's Institutes, Vol 1, p218
1. Instruction concerning the Edomites, 2:1-7
2. Instructions concerning the Moabites, 2:8-15
3. Instruction concerning the Ammonites, 2:16-23
4. Defeat of Sihon king of Heshbon, 2:24-37
Prayer: at the Browns
Scripture memory: Romans 12:1-21
Next Week's Calvin Reading: XVII, 7-10 - Jorge Ruiz
The songs are as follows:
I Sing the Mighty Power of God #128
I sing the mighty pow’r of God that made the mountains rise
That spread the flowing seas abroad and built the lofty skies
I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day
The moon shines full at His command and all the stars obey
I sing the goodness of the Lord that filled the earth with food
He formed the creatures with His word and then pronounced them good
Lord, how Thy wonders are displayed wher-e’er I turn my eye
If I survey the ground I tread or gaze upon the sky
There’s not a plant or flow’r below but makes Thy glories known
And clouds arise and tempests blow by order from Thy throne
While all that borrows life from Thee is ever in Thy care
And everywhere that man can be, Thou, God, art present there
Be Unto Your Name
We are a moment, You are forever.
Lord of the ages, God before time.
We are a vapor, You are eternal.
Love everlasting, reigning on high.
Holy, holy Lord God Almighty
Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain.
Highest praises, honor and glory
Be unto Your name, be unto Your name.
We are the broken, You are the healer
Jesus Redeemer, mighty to save.
You are the love song, we’ll sing forever
bowing before You, blessing Your name.
Holy, holy Lord God Almighty
Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain.
Highest praises, honor and glory
Be unto Your name, be unto Your name.
He Is Good
He is good, He is good.
His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good.
He is good, He is good.
His love endures forever.
Give thanks, for He is good.
For His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds,
Give thanks, give thanks to the Lord.
He is good, He is good, His love endures forever.
Give thanks, for He is good.
Have Thine Own Way #591
Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Thou art the Potter; I am the clay
Mold me and make me after Thy will
While I am waiting, yielded and still
Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Search me and try me, Master, today
Whiter than snow, Lord, wash me just now
As in Thy presence, humbly I bow
Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Wounded and weary, help me, I pray
Power – all power – surely is Thine!
Touch me and heal me, Savior divine!
Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Hold o’er my being absolute sway!
Fill with Thy Spirit till all shall see
Christ only, always living in me!
Holy, Holy, Holy! #3
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!
Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore Thee
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee
Which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be
Holy, holy, holy! Tho’ the darkness hide Thee
Tho’ the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see
Only Thou art holy - there is none beside Thee
Perfect in pow’r, in love, in purity
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth, and sky, and sea
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity
